Regretfully, we say goodbye to our longtime friend and Ambassador, Richard Clapp. He thrived on the service work he participated in with the ambassadors. He was particularly proud to receive recognition as the Volunteer of the year. He once volunteered for 99 events in a year.
Richard Loring Clapp, age 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023. Dick was born on March 10, 1937 in Montclair, New Jersey to Dorothy and Wallace L. Clapp Sr. He attended Montclair High School. After high school, he graduated from Franklin Marshall College. Upon graduation, he began his career as an educator in the math and sciences. Dick had a passion for the outside, which included hiking, camping, and mountain climbing. He was a competitive runner and swimmer. Dick was an avid traveler and enthusiastically enjoyed sharing memories of his trips to Iceland. After moving to the Indianapolis area, he was a frequent volunteer for Indy Ambassadors, a presenter for OASIS, and the Indianapolis marathons.
Dick is survived by his sister in law, Nancy J. Clapp; nieces, Cindy Gerritsen, Kathy Walker, Monica Clapp-Cougan, and Imelda Edgeworth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Wallace L. Clapp Jr.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A time to share memories will begin at 6:00 PM.
