Operation Christmas Child is one of the ministries of Samaritan’s Purse – a 501(c)(3)
www.samaritanspurse.org
Each year, individuals come together to pack shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items, toys, books, clothes, shoes, etc. and the boxes get sent to kids in need ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 around the world.
Over 11 million boxes were sent last year, my group prepared 310.
The goal is 425 boxes this year and almost all resources are provided already. Final collecting efforts are underway.
I have spent a lot of time at Mayo Clinic for health issues this year and recruiting volunteers to help set up and pack has not been at the forefront of my To Do list this year.
I just returned from my 4th trip to Mayo Friday (10/27/17) night and now have a week and a half to pull this together.
Not required…. but if volunteers want to bring a handwritten note/pictures to include in shoe box gifts, that is welcome. More than one is welcome as well.
If someone wants to bring items to include in shoe boxes, that is also welcome, but not expected. Google “Operation Christmas Child What to pack in a shoebox” for details on prohibited items.
